History of yoga
(1) Ancient Times
It's said that yoga's roots can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization around 2,500 BCE.
Early yoga primarily focused on mental discipline, such as meditation and breathing exercises.
It was developed through the Vedic and Upanishadic periods and evolved in various forms, influencing even Buddhism.
(2) Medieval Times
Around the 11th to 15th centuries, a new type of yoga called "Hatha Yoga" emerged.
While ancient yoga focused primarily on mental discipline, Hatha Yoga placed greater emphasis on physical practice, systematizing postures and breathing techniques.
Many modern yoga practices are based on Hatha Yoga principles.
(3) Modern Era and Beyond
In the 20th century, yoga spread to the West, leading to the creation of various styles such as Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, and Power Yoga.
While originally practiced as part of religious training, yoga is now widely enjoyed worldwide as a health practice and lifestyle.
